{"id":686,"date":"2021-10-05T16:28:36","date_gmt":"2021-10-05T16:28:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ukbwg.org.uk\/?page_id=686"},"modified":"2021-10-07T07:38:34","modified_gmt":"2021-10-07T07:38:34","slug":"bwg-vision-and-shared-beliefs","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.ukbwg.org.uk\/?page_id=686","title":{"rendered":"BWG Vision and Shared Beliefs"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Vision and shared beliefs of the UK Brachycephalic Working Group<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Our vision<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A world where no dog experiences health-related welfare problems attributable to having been selectively bred for the brachycephalic conformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Our beliefs<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We as BWG have a shared belief that\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\"><li>Our area of concern covers the actions of humans, and their consequences for dogs, in relation to the brachycephalic conformation<\/li><li>At a population level, the brachycephalic conformation is frequently associated with health problems in dogs<\/li><li>When present, health problems associated with the brachycephalic conformation:    a) Reduce quality of life                                                                                                               b) Compromise a dog\u2019s welfare                                                                                                  c) Can cause dogs to suffer<\/li><li>Suffering, and poor quality of life\/welfare in dogs, are important attributes of a dog\u2019s life to assess and recognise<\/li><li>The animal health and welfare problems linked to breeding for the brachycephalic conformation are one of the UK\u2019s leading canine welfare priorities<\/li><li>There is a societal ethical obligation to promote a good life for dogs under human stewardship<\/li><li>Therefore, the members of BWG \u2013 by virtue of our shared responsibility, opportunity, and mandate \u2013 must work to promote a good life for dogs and to eliminate breed-related health and welfare problems, especially in relation to brachycephaly<\/li><li>Rising populations of certain brachycephalic breeds, because of high current appeal of the brachycephalic conformation to many people, are exacerbating the overall health and welfare problems related to the brachycephalic conformation<\/li><li>Addressing the animal health and welfare problems linked to the brachycephalic conformation is a priority for all our organisations<\/li><li>Reduction in suffering attributable to health problems associated with the brachycephalic conformation in dogs is achievable<\/li><li>The suffering attributable to health problems associated with the brachycephalic conformation can eventually be eliminated<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Overall, BWG considers that <strong>\u201cMaximising good health, welfare and temperament overrides all other considerations for dogs.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div data-wp-interactive=\"core\/file\" class=\"wp-block-file\"><object data-wp-bind--hidden=\"!state.hasPdfPreview\" hidden class=\"wp-block-file__embed\" data=\"https:\/\/www.ukbwg.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/211006-BWG-vision-and-shared-beliefs.pdf\" type=\"application\/pdf\" style=\"width:100%;height:600px\" aria-label=\"Embed of Embed of 211006-BWG-vision-and-shared-beliefs..\"><\/object><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ukbwg.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/211006-BWG-vision-and-shared-beliefs.pdf\">211006-BWG-vision-and-shared-beliefs<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ukbwg.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/211006-BWG-vision-and-shared-beliefs.pdf\" class=\"wp-block-file__button\" download>Download<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Vision and shared beliefs of the UK Brachycephalic Working Group Our vision A world where no dog experiences health-related welfare problems attributable to having been selectively bred for the brachycephalic conformation.
